Have your child draw a picture of anything they would like. Encourage him or her to add details to the picture such as a setting (grass, clouds, windows, floors) and characters. After they complete the drawing encourage him or her to write the beginning sound they hear for some of the items in the picture next to that item. For example if they drew a car, they would write a 'c' or 'k' next to the car. When writing encourage your child to stretch out the word or say it slowly to help them hear each sound.

If your child does not know the sound use the ABC chart that was sent home earlier in the school year to help them find the letter.

If your child can hear more then the beginning sound encourage them to write all the sounds they hear.
