At this time of year we would like students to draw a picture and write 1 to 2 sentences to go with it. Below are some things to remember when helping your child write:

  • Encourage your child to stretch out each word as they write (except for word wall words). For example in 'bug' they may just hear the 'b' and 'g' have them say the word slowly and help them her the 'u' sound in the middle of the word.

  • Students should be writing at least two sounds per word. Please note students will typically write the strongest sound they hear, for example 'because' might be spelled 'bcz'.

  • When writing word wall words please have your child use the word cards we send home weekly to spell them. DO NOT have your child sound out word wall words.
