Materials:
Small items that come in several different colors (Legos, buttons, toy cars, Froot Loops, or any other item)
Divider (cereal box, manila folder or anything that can stand on its own between you & your child)
Have your child sit on one side of the divider and you on the other side. Parent chooses three or more items, places one in the middle and arranges the remaining items above, below and next to the item in the middle. Parent gives directions to child on how to place the items so they have identical arrangements. Directions must include the item color and where to place it.
When your child is finished with the design, remove the divider and compare the arrangements. Switch roles so that the child gives directions to you.
The goal of this game is to help your child learn the directional words above, below and next to.
